On 28 August 2025, the Israeli military conducted an airstrike on Sanaa, the capital of Yemen. In the attacks targeting areas under Houthi control, Prime Minister Ahmed Galib al-Rehavi and several ministers were killed.

Course of the Attack

The Israeli military carried out more than ten airstrikes targeting Sanaa, which is under Houthi control. The attack occurred during a speech by Houthi leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi and triggered explosions across various parts of the city. It was reported that Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz monitored the strikes from the military command center.

Targets and Intelligence

Israeli state television KAN stated that prominent Houthi figures were targeted in the attack. According to information reported by the military radio, the operation was conducted based on intelligence indicating that senior Houthi military and political officials were holding a meeting. It is claimed that Houthi leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi did not attend the meeting.

Death of Prime Minister Ahmed Galib al-Rehavi

The Houthi-aligned Presidency announced that Prime Minister Ahmed Galib al-Rehavi of the “Government of Change and Construction” and several ministers were killed in the attack. According to the statement, the strike occurred during a meeting to assess the government’s annual activities. It was also reported that some individuals present at the meeting survived with injuries and are receiving treatment.

The attack inflicted significant losses on the Houthi political and military leadership in Yemen. Following the strike, the Houthis declared that they would continue their support for Gaza and intensify efforts to strengthen their armed forces.
