Izmir Bakircay University (İZBÜ) is a public university established in İzmir by Law No. 6745, adopted on 20 August 2016. The university is located in the Seyrek area of the Menemen district in İzmir. The institution’s core educational strategy is based on developing accredited programs, conducting scientific research and development (R&D) activities, and participating in social responsibility projects.
History
The establishment of the university was enacted through Article 169 added to Law No. 2809 by Article 18 of Law No. 6745, published in the Official Gazette No. 29804 on 7 September 2016. During its founding process, the university was planned to include five faculties (Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, and Faculty of Health Sciences), three vocational schools (Vocational School of Applied Sciences, Vocational School of Justice, and Vocational School of Foreign Languages), and three institutes (Institute of Natural Sciences, Institute of Social Sciences, and Institute of Health Sciences). The university officially began academic instruction in 2018 with approximately 850 students.
Academic units have since been restructured: The Faculty of Medicine was established on 25 May 2018 by Council of Ministers Decision No. 2018/11593; the Faculty of Pharmacy was established on 25 December 2019 by Presidential Decision No. 2019/1911. On 10 October 2019, the Kınık Health Services Vocational School was established by decision of the Higher Education Council. On 28 March 2020, the previous institutes were closed and replaced by a single Graduate Education Institute; in the same year, on 27 May, the Vocational School’s name was changed to Menemen Vocational School.

Campuses
The main campus of the university is located in the Seyrek region of the Menemen district in İzmir. The campus houses academic buildings, administrative offices, specialized laboratories for each faculty, a central library, social facilities, and sports areas. The central library provides access to both printed and electronic collections to meet students’ academic needs.

Student admissions are conducted through the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS). The university has a total of 8,681 enrolled students. 【1】 Students are placed in programs based on results from centralized exams organized by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM).

Izmir Bakircay University offers undergraduate and associate degree programs through its faculties and vocational schools.
Undergraduate Programs
Undergraduate programs are delivered across various faculties.
The Faculty of Engineering and Architecture offers programs in Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering, and Industrial Engineering.
The Faculty of Human and Social Sciences offers programs in Social and Human Sciences including Geography (with an option for citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus), Psychology, Sociology, and History.
The Faculty of Health Sciences offers programs in Health Sciences including Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Nursing, Audiology, and Health Administration.
The Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences offers programs in Economics and Business Administration, as well as internationally oriented programs in International Trade and Business (in English) and Management Information Systems (in English).
Other Undergraduate Programs: The Faculty of Law offers the Law program; the Faculty of Medicine offers the Medicine program.
Associate Degree Programs
Associate degree programs are delivered through vocational schools to meet the demand for qualified mid-level personnel in specific sectors. The Menemen Vocational School offers programs in Laboratory and Veterinary Technology.
International Activities
The university supports student and staff mobility through international exchange programs such as Erasmus+ and Mevlana. Under its internationalization policy, the university has bilateral cooperation agreements with higher education institutions in various countries. Partner institutions include Vilnius University and Vytautas Magnus University from Lithuania, D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics from Bulgaria, and the University of the Azores from Portugal. The Office of International Relations coordinates exchange programs and international student admission processes.
