Kapıkaya Canyon

Kapıkaya Canyon is located within the boundaries of the Karaisalı district of Adana province in Türkiye, in the village of Kapıkaya. The canyon is approximately 72 kilometers from the city center of Adana and about 5 kilometers from the district center of Karaisalı.

Geographical Features

Kapıkaya Canyon has a height of approximately 200 meters. The Çakıt Creek, which originates in the Ulukışla district of Niğde and is one of the major tributaries of the Seyhan River, flows through the center of the canyon. The canyon is a significant geomorphological formation due to its natural structure.

Natural Features and Ecosystem

The canyon possesses distinct environmental characteristics in terms of its natural landscape and climatic conditions. Natural water sources such as the Bahçecik Waterfall are found within the area. The vegetation cover and faunal diversity form an integral part of the canyon’s ecological structure.

Recreation and Nature Sports

Kapıkaya Canyon is a suitable area for various outdoor activities such as hiking, rock climbing, and nature photography. It features a walking trail with a total length of 7,250 meters. Approximately 400 meters of this trail are equipped with safety railings. The canyon can be visited by both domestic and international tourists throughout the year.

Protection Status

Kapıkaya Canyon has been officially registered as a “Strictly Protected Sensitive Area” by Presidential Decree No. 6159 dated 4 October 2022. This decision was published in the Official Gazette No. 31974 dated 5 October 2022 and entered into force. This status aims to ensure the preservation of the area’s natural structure and its sustainable use.
