Kia Picanto is a city car model in the A-segment, developed by the South Korean automobile manufacturer Kia Corporation and first introduced in 2004. With its compact dimensions and economical design, the Picanto has been updated in terms of design and equipment for the 2025 model year following a facelift in 2024.

Design and Structural Innovations

The 2025 model Picanto presents a new front and rear design by adapting Kia’s “Opposites United” design language to the compact segment. An expanded grille structure, vertical LED daytime running lights and a redesigned rear light cluster contribute to a more sporty appearance. The headlight design, inspired by the EV9 model, is particularly prominent on the GT-Line and GT-Line S trim levels. Dual-tone body colors and redesigned alloy wheel options ranging from 14 to 16 inches add further variety.

Engine Options and Performance

The Kia Picanto is offered with naturally aspirated petrol engine options only, with turbocharged engines removed from the lineup. While maintaining its fuel-efficient character, the model meets expectations for urban driving performance.

Primary engine options:

• 1.0 MPI 3-cylinder petrol
• 1.2 MPI 4-cylinder petrol

Both engines can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or an automated manual transmission. The 1.0 MPI engine accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 15 seconds, with a top speed of around 170 km/h.

Interior and Digital Features

The interior of the Kia Picanto offers simple yet functional features tailored for the compact segment. An 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display and a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster are standard across all trim levels. Connectivity solutions include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity and a USB-C port. Physical climate control buttons have been retained, while comfort features such as seat heating and steering wheel heating are available on the GT-Line trim.

Connectivity and Driver Assistance Systems

The 2025 Kia Picanto is equipped with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems for its class. These systems provide essential functions aimed at enhancing driving safety.

The package includes:

• Lane following assist
• Forward collision avoidance assist (with support for vehicle, pedestrian and cyclist detection)
• Driver attention warning
• Reverse camera and rear parking sensors. Higher trim levels additionally offer advanced driving aids such as lane centering and smart cruise control.

Production and Market Positioning

The Kia Picanto is produced at Kia’s manufacturing facility in Seosan, South Korea. The model is actively sold in Europe, South Korea and select Asian markets, where it is positioned as one of the brand’s strategic entry-level models due to its advantages in urban mobility, low fuel consumption and affordable pricing.
