The Kia Sorento is a mid-size SUV model first introduced in 2002 by the South Korean automaker Kia Corporation. As of 2025, the model is offered in its updated fifth generation, providing a range of engine options, digital features, and off-road capable versions to accommodate a diverse set of users.
Design and Structural Updates
The 2025 Kia Sorento reflects the brand’s recent adoption of a more rigid and geometric design language. At the front, vertical LED headlights and a wide grille contribute to a modern appearance, while the rear features vertically oriented taillights and a revised tailgate. In the X-Line and X-Pro versions, ground clearance has been increased, off-road tires are used, and distinct exterior design elements are incorporated. Wheel options range from 18 to 20 inches.
Engine Options and Performance
The new Sorento is available with three powertrain options: gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid. The gasoline variant offers a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated or turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The hybrid model combines a 1.6-liter turbo engine with an electric motor to produce a total of 227 horsepower. The plug-in hybrid version combines a 1.6-liter engine with an electric unit to deliver 261 horsepower and can operate in fully electric mode for approximately 50 kilometers. Depending on the selected engine, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive is available.
Interior and Digital Equipment
The 2025 Sorento’s interior has been updated for technological and ergonomic purposes. The driver-oriented dashboard includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.3-inch infotainment display, which are integrated into a single unit. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are provided as standard features. Higher trims offer leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof, and a digital rearview mirror.

Features include lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, front collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, and a 360-degree surround-view camera. Higher trims incorporate advanced connectivity technologies such as a digital key and remote parking assistant. The X-Pro variant is equipped with a torque vectoring system and off-road driving modes to facilitate off-road operation.
Production and Positioning
The Sorento serves as Kia’s global representative in the mid-size SUV segment. It is marketed in North America, Europe, and Asia, targeting users who require both family-oriented use and off-road driving capabilities. Production is carried out at Kia facilities in South Korea, the United States, and Slovakia.
