Kıbledağı Hacı Hafız Yusuf Yılmaz Mosque is located at the summit of Kıble Mountain in the Güneysu district of Rize province, at an altitude of 1,130 meters above sea level. The mosque is named "Kıble Mountain" due to its location, which faces the qibla direction, and its setting amidst the natural beauty of the region. With its elevation and position, it is recognized as the highest mosque in the Black Sea Region.

The origins of Kıbledağı Hacı Hafız Yusuf Yılmaz Mosque date back to the 19th century. Initially, it was built as a wooden prayer hall by Meşula Mehmet Efendi and Kuş Ahmed Efendi. However, in 1960, a massive fire completely destroyed the wooden structure. Following the fire, the local community paved the ground with large stones, converting the site into a temporary open-air prayer area (namazgah). In 1962, with the support of the local people and under the leadership of Hacı Hafız Yusuf Yılmaz, the imam of Güneysu Central Mosque, a new 30-square-meter stone mosque was constructed.

Modern Structure and Architectural Features

The current structure of the mosque was rebuilt between 2013 and 2015. During this period, its architectural design was inspired by Şemsi Ahmet Pasha Mosque in Üsküdar, one of the significant works of the Ottoman period. The mosque was completed after two years of meticulous work and was inaugurated in 2015 by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Its stone construction reflects the characteristics of traditional Ottoman architecture, harmonizing with the surrounding natural landscape.

Surrounding Landscape and Visitor Facilities

The Kıbledağı Hacı Hafız Yusuf Yılmaz Mosque is surrounded by recreational areas, walking trails, and observation terraces, providing visitors with spaces to rest and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. These areas attract both local and international tourists, offering an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the region. Additionally, activities such as tree planting and conservation efforts to preserve the natural environment in the vicinity of the mosque have also gained attention.
