Kırıkkale University (KKÜ)

Kırıkkale University (KKÜ) is a public university established on July 3, 1992. The university is located in the city center of Kırıkkale and its districts in Türkiye’s Central Anatolia Region.

Kırıkkale University was established on July 3, 1992, by Law No. 3837. According to its founding law, it incorporated the Faculties of Science and Literature, Economic and Administrative Sciences, Engineering, and Veterinary Medicine, along with the Institutes of Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Health Sciences. At the time of its establishment, the only operational unit was the Kırıkkale Vocational School, transferred from Ankara University. In the 1993–1994 academic year, the university began instruction with three faculties, one vocational school, and two institutes. Over time, new academic units were added, including the Faculties of Medicine, Law, Education, Dentistry, Fine Arts, Islamic Sciences, and Sports Sciences.

The university’s main campus, known as the Central Campus, is situated along the Kırıkkale-Ankara highway. The majority of academic units are located on this campus. Additionally, vocational schools affiliated with the university are spread across different regions of Kırıkkale Province.

Health Campus: The Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine Hospital are located on this campus.

District and Town Campuses: The Keskin Vocational School is located in Keskin, the Delice Vocational School in Delice, the Bahşılı Fatma Şenses Social Sciences Vocational School in Bahşılı, and the Hacılar Hüseyin Aytemiz Vocational School in Hacılar Town.

The total number of students at Kırıkkale University is 33,190. Undergraduate and associate degree students are admitted based on results from the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS). Graduate students pursue their education according to criteria set by the relevant institutes.

Kırıkkale University offers undergraduate and associate degree programs in the fields of natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, medicine, arts, and vocational education.

Undergraduate level: In addition to Medicine, Dentistry, and Law, the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences offers programs in Computer, Electrical-Electronics, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering, as well as fundamental sciences such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. The Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences includes programs in Actuarial Science, Econometrics, Economics, and International Relations. The Faculty of Human and Social Sciences offers programs in Psychology, History, Sociology, and Translation and Interpretation in Arabic, French, and English.

The Faculty of Education provides various teacher training programs (Preschool Education, Special Education, Turkish Language Teaching, etc.), while the Faculty of Health Sciences offers health-focused programs such as Nutrition and Dietetics, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, and Nursing. The Faculty of Fine Arts offers art and design-oriented programs including Cartoon and Animation and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, and the Faculty of Sports Sciences supports academic education through its Sports Management program. The Faculties of Islamic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine are also undergraduate-level academic units.

Associate degree level: Programs focus on professional competence. At Kırıkkale Vocational School, technical programs such as Arms Industry Technician, Automotive Technology, Machinery, and Control and Automation Technology align with the region’s industrial identity. The Health Services Vocational School offers associate degree programs in First Aid and Emergency Care, Anesthesia, and Medical Imaging Techniques. The Fatma Şenses Social Sciences Vocational School provides education in newly established programs including Court Office Services, Business Administration, and Accounting. Additionally, Delice Vocational School offers agriculture-focused programs such as Viticulture, Plant Protection, and Digital Agricultural Technologies, while Hacılar Hüseyin Aytemiz Vocational School offers specialized programs in Occupational Health and Safety.

With internationalization as a strategic goal, Kırıkkale University participates in international and national exchange programs such as Erasmus+, Mevlana, and Farabi. Students wishing to benefit from Erasmus+ mobility must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.20/4.00 for undergraduate studies and 2.50/4.00 for graduate studies. Mobility duration must not exceed 12 months per academic level. The university has bilateral agreements with various European universities, primarily in Poland, Romania, and France.^【1】

The university has achieved several academic accomplishments:

• Quality and Accreditation: Successfully passed external evaluation processes by the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) and, as of 2024, has been included in the YÖKAK Institutional Accreditation Program (IAP).^【2】

• Disability-Free University Awards: In the 2024 YÖK Disability-Free University Awards, the university received awards in the categories of physical accessibility (Orange Flag), educational accessibility (Green Flag), and sociocultural accessibility (Blue Flag). Several programs in the Faculty of Education have been awarded the Disability-Free Program Badge.^【3】

Rankings:

The design of the Central Campus aims to support students’ academic and social development. Within the campus, student activity centers, congress centers, and cultural centers facilitate social and cultural activities. Sports facilities include an indoor sports hall, stadium, swimming pool, and fitness center. Accommodation needs are met through KYK dormitories located on campus. Cultural activities include performances by the Folk Dance Group at international events.
