Kolpa (Music Group)

Kolpa is a Turkish rock band founded in Istanbul in 2005, with its roots tracing back to Adana. The band was established by vocalist Barış Yurtçu and bassist Bora Yeter. In 2007, guitarist Cenk Taner Dönmez, a high school friend of the founders from Adana, moved to Istanbul, completing the group’s initial three-member lineup for their first album. Their debut studio album, Hayat Senin, released in 2009, is regarded as the official start of their professional music career. Following the album’s release, drummer Samuray Gökçe joined the group, finalizing its permanent lineup.

Musical Works and Achievements

Since their debut, Kolpa has reached a wide audience in Türkiye, gaining recognition for their pop-rock productions. In 2010, they released the maxi single album Maximum, consisting of five cover songs. The track “Böyle Ayrılık Olmaz” from this album remained at number one on music charts for an extended period. Their 2011 single Son Nefesim became one of the most frequently played rock songs on radio stations across Türkiye.

In 2012, their third studio album, Yatağın Soğuk Tarafı, further solidified the band’s musical direction. The title track’s success earned Kolpa the award for “Most Downloaded Songs Group” at the 2012 Altın Kelebek Awards. The song “Hiç Bitmez Bu Masal” from the same album was used as the opening theme for the popular youth drama series Pis Yedili, and the band also made a guest appearance in the series.

Music videos were produced for the tracks “Beni Aşka İnandır” and “Nasıl Öğrendin Unutmayı,” both of which achieved high streaming numbers and charted prominently.

In 2013, Kolpa won the Altın Kelebek Award for “Best Group.”

Their fourth album, Aşk ve Hayat Hakkında, released in 2014, included a cover of Sezen Aksu’s “Beni Unutma” and an original song titled “Sezen’den,” dedicated to Aksu. The first music video from the album was made for the song “Ölünmüyor Mutsuzluktan,” which received frequent airplay on music channels.
