Konya Technical University (KTÜN)

Konya Technical University (KTÜN) is a public university primarily active in the fields of engineering and technical sciences. The university is located in the city of Konya in Türkiye’s Central Anatolia Region. KTÜN was established as a new higher education institution by Article 179 of the Additional Provisions of Law No. 2809, as published in the Official Gazette No. 30425 dated 18 May 2018 under Law No. 7141.

The institutional history of Konya Technical University dates back to 1970. The foundational academic units of the university were established during the 1970–1971 academic year as the School of Engineering and Architecture under the Ministry of National Education. One year later, in 1971, this school was renamed the Konya State Academy of Engineering and Architecture. In 1982, pursuant to Decree-Law No. 41, the academy was integrated into Selçuk University and transformed into the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture.

For many years, this faculty operated under the umbrella of Selçuk University. In 2012, it was divided into two separate units: the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture. Finally, in 2018, under Law No. 7141, these two faculties, along with the Vocational School of Technical Sciences, were separated from Selçuk University and unified under the new institution of Konya Technical University. The same law also established new academic units under the rectorate: the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, and the Graduate School of Education.

The university’s educational and administrative activities are carried out through two main campuses in Konya:

• Gelişim Campus: This campus hosts the university’s main administrative and management units, as well as the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Architecture and Design. The Library and Documentation Directorate is also located here.
• Ardıçlı Campus: This campus is home to the Vocational School of Technical Sciences. It provides laboratory and workshop facilities for applied education at the associate degree level.

The academic structure of Konya Technical University comprises faculties, one institute, and vocational schools focused on technical sciences, design, management, and agricultural sciences.

The university offers education at the associate, undergraduate, and graduate levels. Student admissions are conducted based on the results of the national centralized university entrance examination (Higher Education Institutions Examination – YKS). According to 2024 reports, the university has a total of 9731 students.^【1】

The university’s academic programs are primarily concentrated in engineering, information technology, architecture, and technical vocational fields.

• Undergraduate Programs: Offered by the Faculties of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Computer and Information Sciences, and Architecture and Design, these include programs such as Computer Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Surveying Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Geological Engineering, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning.
• Associate Degree Programs: The Vocational School of Technical Sciences provides technically oriented programs such as Shoe Design and Production, Computer Programming, Electricity, Electronics Technology, Surveying and Cadastre, Construction Technology, Occupational Health and Safety, Chemical Technology, Control and Automation Technology, and Machinery, to train personnel with professional competence.

In line with its internationalization goals, KTÜN has participated in the European Union’s education and mobility program, Erasmus+, since 2004. Under the Erasmus+ program, students are provided opportunities for study, internship, and doctoral mobility. Additionally, national mobility programs such as the Mevlana Exchange Program and the Farabi Exchange Program are also implemented.

• In the “World Scientists and Universities Rankings” compiled by the international ranking organization AD Scientific Index for 2024, 217 academics affiliated with the university were listed. KTÜN ranked 110th among 295 universities in Türkiye.^【2】
