Kotan

Origin

The word kotan (գոթան), meaning "heavy plow" in Armenian, is generally accepted as having a common origin with this term. Although Robert Dankoff, in his work Armenian Loanwords in Turkish, classifies the term as an Armenian loanword, the exact Armenian source of the word has not been definitively established. Moreover, the widespread use of the word in Anatolian dialects does not support the absolute attribution of its origin to Armenian.
