

Lucas Torreira, born on 11 February 1996 in Fray Bentos, Uruguay, began his career in his home country. At a young age, Torreira joined the youth academy of Europe and moved to Italy to join Pescara’s youth system. In 2014, he signed his first professional contract and was promoted to Pescara’s senior team.
After a period of loan spells, Torreira transferred to Sampdoria, a club in Italy’s Serie A. He attracted attention with his performances for Sampdoria between 2016 and 2018, standing out for his energy in midfield, ball-winning ability and combative nature.
In 2018, Torreira transferred to Arsenal, a club in England’s Premier League, where he made regular appearances over two seasons. In 2019, he helped Arsenal reach the UEFA Europa League final. During this time, he earned the admiration of Arsenal supporters.

During his first season at Galatasaray, he appeared in 31 matches and won the affection of fans with his effective midfield performances. In the 2023-2024 season, he played 42 matches and provided two assists. On 2 March 2024, he reached his 75th appearance for Galatasaray.
Lucas Torreira was called up to the Uruguay national football team in 2018 and also played for Uruguay at the 2018 FIFA World World Cup. To date, he has made over 40 appearances for the national team, contributing significantly in the defensive midfield role through important efforts.
