Mad Men (TV Series)

Mad Men is an American drama series created by Matthew Weiner and aired on the AMC channel from 2007 to 2015. The series consists of a total of seven seasons and 92 episodes. Following its initial broadcast run, the broadcasting rights were transferred to Amazon Prime Video. The series is produced by Lions Gate Television, with executive producers including Matthew Weiner, Scott Hornbacher, André Jacquemetton, Maria Jacquemetton and Janet Leahy.

The series explores the transformation of American society through the lives of employees at Sterling Cooper, a fictional advertising agency located on Madison Avenue in New York City in the early 1960s. The narrative, centered on the identity conflicts of the main character Don Draper, examines social gender roles, class structure, the advertising industry, consumer culture and questions of identity.

Some psychological analyses have highlighted the characters’ tendency to isolate their professional lives from their personal lives, a phenomenon described as “modern compartmentalization.” Don Draper’s behavior in the final episodes has been interpreted as a form of identity dissolution or internal collapse. Moreover, many characters in the series are depicted as trapped between societal expectations of the era and their individual desires.

The series was shot in 35 mm film format and broadcast using the Dolby Digital sound system. Although production was primarily based in Los Angeles, California, the visual representation of 1960s New York was meticulously constructed. Great care was taken to achieve historical authenticity in costume, set design and atmosphere.
