Medaş Konya Metropolitan Stadium

Medaş Konya Metropolitan Stadium is a facility constructed in the city of Konya for the city’s football club Konyaspor. Originally planned in 2006 with a capacity of 35,000 chair, the project initially included a stadium along with retail spaces. However, due to a nationwide policy in Türkiye to relocate stadiums away from central sports infrastructure city centers, the new stadium’s location was moved approximately nine kilometers northwest of Konya’s city center.

Construction officially commenced on October 2012 and was completed within two years despite challenges posed by weather conditions, opening in September 2014. The inaugural match took place in an atmosphere of half-filled stands, a result of protests against the country’s fan identity card system situation.

The architectural design of Konya Metropolitan Stadium incorporates the green-white colors of Konyaspor and draws attention through geometric patterns formed by triangular panels on the exterior façade. These triangular panels create a strong visual identity for the building’s exterior while being clad in green and white, symbolizing the colors of the city’s football team. Some of the panels are made of translucent material to allow natural light to penetrate, enhancing the utilization of daylight within the interior spaces. At night, the edges and corners of the triangles are accentuated by specialized LED systems, producing an impressive and modern visual effect.

The stadium’s stands are constructed using reinforced concrete, while the roof and façade cladding consist of steel structures with membrane and composite materials. Additionally, the roof system features specially designed drainage channels and linear LED lighting elements that enhance the aesthetic appearance.

Designed in accordance with UEFA and FIFA standards, the stadium has a total construction area of 90,000 m² and a seating capacity of 42,000, including 55 private boxes. The stadium also houses three restaurants, three large store areas, and UEFA-compliant special loading zones place. The Grass pitch is equipped with an under-soil heating system that meets FIFA and UEFA standards.

The stadium features a covered parking area for 500 vehicles and an open parking area for 1,762 vehicles. In addition, it includes 20 standard elevators, two elevators for persons with disabilities, 27 mosques, numerous kiosks, and a total of 542 toilet stalls. The 55 private boxes are located in the east and west sections of the stands.

The stadium’s security and technological infrastructure is highly advanced. Within the framework of an integrated electronic ticketing system system, the facility is equipped with 150 surveillance cameras and 128 security cameras. The security systems have been designed in compliance with Law No. 6222 on the Prevention of Violence and Disorder in Sports Law.

In addition, emergency systems have been implemented, including an automatic door release system and protocols ensuring that elevators automatically descend to ground level during emergencies such as. Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems guarantee continuous electricity service, eliminating the risk of power outages during events.

The stadium features two large scoreboards, the largest and highest quality three-dimensional display systems in World, each measuring 72 m². The sound system installed in the stands complies with UEFA standards and automatically adjusts volume levels according to the tribune atmosphere.
