Melih Mahmutoğlu was born in Istanbul on May 12, 1990. He started playing basketball in the Genç Boğaziçi youth system. In 1999, he took his first professional step in his career by transferring to the Efes Pilsen youth system.

Club Career

  • Pertevniyal (2006–2008): Mahmutoğlu began his professional career in 2006 at Pertevniyal, Anadolu Efes's pilot team. He played in the Turkish Basketball 2nd League for three seasons with this team.
  • Darüşşafaka (2008–2010): He transferred to Darüşşafaka for the 2008-2009 season. In his first season, he averaged 7.3 points and 0.5 assists in 32 games. In the 2009-2010 season, he averaged 5.9 points and 0.8 assists in 28 games. He stood out in the last three games of the season with an average of 15.3 points and reached his season-high score of 18 points against Türk Telekom.
  • Galatasaray (2010–2011): He played for Galatasaray in the 2010-2011 season.

Mahmutoğlu has been part of the Senior National Basketball Team since 2013. He represented Türkiye in the 2013 Mediterranean Games, the 2015 and 2017 European Basketball Championships, the 2016 Olympic Qualifiers, and the 2019 World Cup Qualifiers. The player, who also competed with the U20 National Team, stood out by scoring 20 points against Ukraine in the 15th Turgut Atakol Tournament.
