In an interview with Ege Ersöz on October 1, 2018, Mert Müldür was asked: "You are one of the few players who has succeeded in being selected for national teams while playing for your club. Did you receive invitations from both the Turkey and Austria national teams at a young age? You've been wearing the crescent-star jersey since U17. What factors influenced your decision to play for Turkey?"

To which Mert Müldür responded: "Turkey was the first to call me up for the U17 National Team. During that time, I had a conversation with Mehmet Hacıoğlu. I played for the U17 National Team in the European Championship qualifiers. Then, the Austria National Team called me up for the U18 team, and I joined their camp. Very shortly after, both Turkey and Austria called me up for the U19 European Championship. I wanted to play for Turkey, and I listened to my heart and chose the Turkish National Team. Now, being selected for the A National Team is a separate joy for me. After all, who wouldn't want to wear the crescent-star jersey? I am very happy to be here."

He continues his career with the A National Team, wearing the number 18 crescent-star jersey.
