Architectural and Technical Features

The Metristepe Victory Monument was built on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of our Republic, under the leadership of the then Bilecik Governor H. Kaşif Ünal, with contributions from various institutions and citizens. Construction of the monument began on June 24, 1973, and was completed and opened on June 29, 1975.

The martyrdom monument is built as a reinforced concrete structure, with a height of 24 meters. It features reliefs that provide information about the units and commanders who participated in the war. Additionally, trenches have been dug around it, and on all four sides of the monument, there are four reliefs depicting the İnönü Battles and historical telegrams. Two statues are placed on separate pedestals at the front of the monument.


  • Architectural Design: The architectural project of the monument was prepared by Sadun Özel, with the involvement of senior engineer Ruhi Aydın.
  • Reliefs and Artistic Sculptures: The relief works were created by sculptor Şahin Özyüksel.
  • Supervision: The construction of the monument was meticulously supervised step by step by the Control Officer Hadi Arıncı.
  • Landscape Design: The landscape design was carried out by the Public Works Directorate.
  • Lighting: The lighting was provided by the Turkish Electricity Authority (TEK).
  • Dimensions: Standing at a height of 24 meters, this giant monument can even be seen from Eskişehir in open areas.
