Middle Mosque

Orta Camii is a historical place of worship located within the boundaries of Cumhuriyet Mahallesi in the district of Adapazarı, Sakarya province. The structure was built in 1165 AH (1752 CE).

Location

The mosque is situated within Uzunçarşı in Adapazarı, between Pirinç Pazarı and Aynalı Kavak Çarşısı. Official address records list its location as Pirinç Pazarı Çarşısı.

Architectural Features

The structure is designed with a square plan and consists of two stories. Its roof is covered with clay tiles and has a gabled form. Although the building technique employs masonry stone or brick construction, the exterior walls are clad in wood. The mosque has a single minaret.

Sections and Interior Space

The structure is divided into two main sections according to function:

• Ground Floor: The first floor of the mosque is used as shops. Among these shops today is a şadırvan that has remained within the commercial space. It is known that the şadırvan was constructed alongside the mosque.

• Upper Floor: This floor, designated for worship, retains the original architectural features of the building. An elevated gallery, originally used as a women’s prayer area, is also located on this level.

• Harim: The harim, the main prayer hall of the mosque, preserves its original mihrab, muezzin’s gallery, wooden ceiling, and decorative elements.

Access and Visitation

The structure is accessible via asphalt roads throughout all seasons. The mosque is open for visitation every day of the week. Outside of prayer hours, visitation is permitted provided visitors remain quiet and wear appropriate attire.
