Moscow Yeletskaya Street Bombing (2025)

Moscow Yeletskaya Street Bombing is a bombing that occurred on the night of 23 to 24 December 2025 on Yeletskaya Street in the southern part of Russia’s capital Moscow, resulting in the deaths of two traffic police officers and one civilian. The attack took place shortly after an assassination in the same area, in which an explosive device planted on the vehicle of a Russian general detonated.

Course of Events

The attack occurred during nighttime hours on Yeletskaya Street in Moscow’s Orekhovo-Borisovo Yuzhnoye district. It is reported that the explosion took place around 01:30, after which security forces cordoned off the area and maintained a heavy police presence until morning.

According to official statements, two traffic police officers on patrol near Yeletskaya Street noticed a suspicious individual. As the officers approached the person with the intention of detaining them, the explosive device detonated.

Casualties

A total of three people lost their lives in the attack. Two of the deceased were traffic police officers on duty, and the third was a civilian present at the scene.

Investigation Process

Following the attack, the Russian Investigative Committee launched a wide-ranging investigation. The committee stated that forensic examinations were being conducted at the scene, and criminal and medical analyses were underway to determine the type of explosive and the conditions of the detonation. Committee Chairman Aleksandr Bastrykin ordered the inclusion of federal-level forensic experts in the investigation.

Spatial Connection to Previous Assassination

Yeletskaya Street, where the bombing occurred, intersects with the street where the assassination of 22 December 2025 took place, in which an explosive device planted on the vehicle of the Chief of the Russian General Staff’s Operational Training Directorate, Fanil Sarvarov, detonated and killed him. Authorities indicated that the possible connection between the two incidents is being evaluated as part of the investigation.

In a statement issued by Russian Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko, it was stated that the attack targeted security personnel and that a criminal investigation has been initiated. It was also reported that security measures in the area of the explosion have been heightened and that investigations are ongoing.
