Müşfik Kenter (9 September 1932 – 15 August 2012) was one of the leading figures of Turkish theater. Kenter had a multifaceted career spanning stage, cinema, television, and dubbing, and was an artist who founded theater companies and maintained an active stage presence for many decades.
A graduate of Istanbul Boys’ High School, Kenter received his training at the Theater Department of Ankara State Conservatory and launched his professional theater career upon graduation. In the 1960s, he co-founded “Kent Actors,” one of Türkiye’s first private theater companies, with his sister Yıldız Kenter. He continued working with the same company for over forty years, staging plays by classical authors such as Shakespeare, Brecht, and Anton Chekhov.
Kenter developed a distinctive artistic practice centered on the stage, emphasizing play-reads, in-scene monologues, and a directing approach that brought actors and audiences into close proximity. He was regarded as an expert in the category of “one-person plays” and produced numerous works in this field.

Kenter sustained his film career, which began in the 1950s, for many years. He appeared in significant films of the era such as “Yedi Kocalı Hürmüz,” “Anayurt Oteli,” and “Bir Yudum Sevgi.” He also appeared in television series, notably taking leading roles in productions such as “Kurtuluş” and “Cumhuriyet.”
In the field of voice acting, he was also active. He played a pioneering role in voice training for figures such as Savaş Ay and Mete İnsel, contributing significantly to the development of dubbing in Türkiye.
Kenter had two marriages. He had a son from his first marriage. He married theater artist Güner Sümer in his second marriage. Throughout his life, he maintained a close artistic collaboration with his sister Yıldız Kenter. Among his close friends were prominent figures from the stage and literary worlds.
Kenter passed away on 15 August 2012 in Istanbul due to complications from lung cancer. He was buried at Zincirlikuyu Cemetery. Following his death, tributes and commemorative events were held across Turkish theater circles. On the sixth anniversary of his death, TRT Haber broadcast a program recalling his life and contributions to the arts.
