My Father and My Son (Film)

My Father and My Son is a 2005 drama film written and directed by Çağan Irmak. The production, featuring Fikret Kuşkan, Çetin Tekindor and Ege Tanman in the lead roles, is regarded as one of the most significant works in Turkish cinema. Plot

Sadık, a left-wing journalist, leaves his father Hüseyin’s traditional village in the Aegean region to settle in Istanbul, seeking to distance himself from his father’s rigid worldview. There, he marries an idealistic woman and has a son named Deniz. However, after unexpectedly losing his wife during the 1980 military coup, Sadık struggles to hold on to life. Desperate, he is forced to return to his father’s village years later, bringing Deniz with him, despite their continuing ideological differences. Although Hüseyin finds it difficult to accept his son’s political beliefs, the arrival of his grandson Deniz gradually melts the ice between them. The film emotionally portrays the efforts of these three characters to confront the wounds of the past, begin anew, and support one another.
