Necmettin Erbakan University (NEÜ)

Necmettin Erbakan University (NEÜ) is a public university located in the city of Konya, named after Prof. Dr. Necmettin Erbakan, a former Prime Minister of the Republic of Türkiye and a prominent scientist. The university’s mission is to promote scientific research, high-quality education, and social contribution, with the goal of supporting regional and national development through its academic programs.

History

The origins of Necmettin Erbakan University trace back to the units of Selçuk University. The university was established on 14 July 2010 by Law No. 6005 under the name Konya University and began operations as Konya’s second public university. During its establishment, several faculties, schools, and institutes that had been operating for many years within Selçuk University were transferred to the newly founded institution. As a result, the university began its activities with a significant academic foundation and extensive experience.

Approximately two years after its founding, on 11 April 2012, pursuant to the Law on Amendments to the Primary Education and Education Law and Certain Other Laws published in the Official Gazette, the university’s name was changed to Necmettin Erbakan University to honor the legacy of Prof. Dr. Necmettin Erbakan, whose profound contributions left deep marks on Türkiye’s political and scientific life. With this name change, the university acquired an identity that transcends being merely an educational institution, becoming a guardian of scientific heritage and national values.

Administration and Academic Staff

The administration of Necmettin Erbakan University is structured in accordance with higher education laws and relevant regulations. The highest-ranking official of the university is the rector, Prof. Dr. Cem Zorlu. The rector is responsible for the overall management, strategic planning, and representation of the university. Reporting to the rector are vice-rectors, deans, directors of institutes and schools, and the general secretariat, which together form the core organs of the university’s academic and administrative governance. The University Senate and the Board of Directors make decisions on academic and administrative matters to guide the university’s development.

The academic staff of the university consists of competent professors, associate professors, doctoral instructors, teaching assistants, and research assistants. The university places great emphasis on scientific research and publication, actively encouraging its academic personnel to participate in national and international projects. Student Profile

Necmettin Erbakan University hosts tens of thousands of students from all corners of Türkiye and many countries around the world. As of the 2024-2025 academic year, the university’s total student population exceeds 37,000. A significant portion of these students are enrolled in undergraduate programs, while thousands continue their education in associate degree, master’s, and doctoral programs.

In line with its commitment to internationalization, the university increasingly enrolls international students each year.
