Semedo made his debut for the Portugal national team on 10 November 2015 against Serbia. He was part of the squad that won the bronze medal at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. He played in Euro 2020 and was a member of the Portugal squad that won the 2024–25 UEFA Nations League. He came on as a substitute in the tournament final and played a crucial role.
