New Sakarya Atatürk Stadium

The New Sakarya Atatürk Stadium is a multi-purpose complex located in the Adapazarı district of Sakarya Province, serving as the home ground for Sakaryaspor. Constructed by the Housing Development Administration of Türkiye (TOKİ), the stadium was designed to meet UEFA standards and opened for service on 8 July 2017 with a match between Sakaryaspor and Kahramanmaraşspor.

Capacity and Architectural Design

The stadium features a bowl-shaped design with a seating capacity of 28,154 spectators. One of its most striking features is its 41,500 square meter roof covering. This canopy is designed using 3,500 square meters of transparent PTFE and PVC membranes, integrated with an illumination system in Sakaryaspor’s official colors: green, white and black. Although initially planned for a capacity of 25,000, the final design was expanded to accommodate more than 28,000 spectators.

Technical and Social Facilities

The New Sakarya Atatürk Stadium was planned under the concept of a “Living Stadium,” intended for continuous active use. In addition to football, the infrastructure supports other sports disciplines. As part of this, 23 individual training rooms were added beneath the lower sections of the stands, and a 120-meter indoor athletics track was constructed. These facilities enable training in athletics, basketball, volleyball, handball, and table tennis.

Modern Technologies and Smart Stadium System

The stadium is equipped with integrated smart ticketing and entry-exit control systems linked to the Passolig platform. Security and network systems ensure optimal safety, while access control systems are supported by modern technological solutions.

Social Areas and Additional Services

The stadium complex includes a sports high school with 12 classrooms, a 850 square meter Youth Center, and a library place. Additionally, there are extra sports areas including a 5-a-side football field, two 7-a-side fields, and four tennis courts. Beneath the stadium, facilities for athletes and visitors include changing rooms, coach rooms, rest areas, and mosques.

Economic and Strategic Value

Although the initial cost estimate for the stadium was 106 million Turkish Lira, the final cost reached 151 million Turkish Lira. This major investment is among the most significant projects undertaken to revitalize Sakarya’s sports and social life. With its modern infrastructure, the stadium continues to serve as a venue for Sakaryaspor and other sports disciplines.
