Night Garden (Series)

In the Night Garden (original title: In the Night Garden) is a television series produced in the United Kingdom for young child viewers. The program features short episodes, each centered on themes of bedtime or quiet time.

Overview

In the Night Garden, was developed by experienced children’s television producers Anne Wood and Andy Davenport. The duo previously worked on the production of popular children’s programs such as Teletubbies. The series was filmed on a real forested location in England, with characters and the garden environment presented in a way that appeals to children through a combination of live costumes and some computer-generated visual effects.

The first episode aired on 21 March 2007. Each episode is approximately 30 minutes long, and the series consists of a total of 104 episodes.

The series is specifically structured for young children to watch before bedtime. Filming focused on live character performances and the visualization of a colorful environment, supported by music and lullabies.

Upsy Daisy (Rebecca Hyland) is a cheerful and optimistic character who loves to dance in the garden and often persuades other characters to join her. One of her favorite possessions is her bed, which has a will of its own and frequently follows her around the garden. Makka Pakka

Makka Pakka (Justyn Towler) is a charming character who lives in a small cave at the edge of the garden. He is most interested in collecting and washing small stones, and occasionally washes the faces of other characters. When moving around the garden, he uses his vehicle called Og-Pog, which carries soap, a sponge, an uff-uff dryer, and a special trumpet. Makka Pakka’s orderly and meticulous nature gently introduces themes of care and cleanliness to children.^【3】

Tombliboo Characters (In the Night Garden)

Tombliboos

The Tombliboos are a trio: Unn (Andy Wareham), red and green; Ooo (Holly Denoon), brown and pink; and Eee (Elisa Laghi), pink and yellow. They live together in a bush, play drums, and make music on pianos. The Tombliboos’ play-based and cooperative activities present concepts such as sharing, teamwork, and social interaction to children in an entertaining way.^【4】
