Prof. Dr. Nihat Hatipoğlu (11 May 1955, Diyarbakır – still alive) is an academic, professor of theology, television program host and author. He has held various positions at the Directorate of Religious Affairs and has conducted research on the accurate transmission of Islamic teachings in the Islamic world. Additionally, through his television programs and published books, he has reached a wide audience and contributed significantly to religious education and preaching.
Nihat Hatipoğlu was born in Diyarbakır and completed his primary education in Siirt and Malatya. He graduated from Uşak Imam Hatip High School in 1975 and subsequently enrolled at the Faculty of Theology at Ankara University. After graduating in 1981, he completed his master’s degree at the same faculty in the Hadith Main Science Department and earned his PhD in 1999 with the thesis titled “The Role of Hadith in Understanding the Qur’an al-Karim”. Hatipoğlu continued his academic work by studying Arabic in Egypt and later rose to the rank of professor at the Faculty of Theology at Dicle University.
Prof. Dr. Nihat Hatipoğlu has made numerous contributions in the field of religious education throughout his academic career. Between 1985 and 1987 he studied Arabic in Egypt and then served as Director of Qur’an Courses at the Directorate of Religious Affairs. From 1990 to 2005 he worked as an expert at the High Council of Religious Affairs and was appointed professor in 2012. In 2017 he was appointed by the President to the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
He began his television career with religious programs on Canal A and Star TV channels and has regularly hosted religious programs on ATV since 2005. He gained a wide viewership through his Ramadan iftar and suhoor programs.
Prof. Dr. Nihat Hatipoğlu is married to Emel Hatipoğlu and is the father of three children.
