
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Necmettin Pamir was born on 26 December 1953 in Lefkoşa, Cyprus. He completed his primary education at Ankara Yeni Turan Primary School (1964) and his secondary education at Istanbul Haydarpaşa High School (1970). He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Cerrahpaşa, Istanbul University in 1976. In the same year, he began his specialization training in the Department of Neurosurgery at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, which he completed in 1981.
Between 1984 and 1985, he served as a visiting scholar with a scholarship at the Department of Neurosurgery, Karolinska Institute in Sweden, and the Department of Neurosurgery, University of Zurich in Switzerland. In 1992, he received clinical and surgical training in skull base surgery at the Universities of Pittsburgh, Virginia, and George Washington in the United States. In 1995, he completed Gamma Knife training at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.
Prof. Dr. M. Necmettin Pamir began his academic career in 1981 as a specialist in the Department of Neurosurgery at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine. In 1985, he was appointed Assistant Professor in the same department and became Associate Professor within the same year. In 1986, he was appointed Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine. He attained the rank of Professor in 1991. From 1992 to 2006, he served as Director of the Institute of Neurological Sciences at Marmara University. During this period, the institute conducted numerous academic and clinical projects in both neurosurgery and neurological sciences. Prof. Dr. M. Necmettin Pamir retired from Marmara University in 2008.

On 1 January 2008, he assumed the position of Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the School of Health Sciences, Acıbadem University, and also took on the roles of Department Chair and Founding Rector. He served as Rector from 2008 to 2012 and as Department Chair from 2008 to 2018. He currently continues his duties in the Department of Neurosurgery at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine.
Throughout his career, Prof. Dr. M. Necmettin Pamir held administrative positions including Chief Physician of Marmara University Hospital, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Marmara Neurological Sciences Foundation, and Member of the Senate of Marmara University. He served as President of the Turkish Society of Neurosurgery at national and international levels, as a member of the Education Committee of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS), and as a member of the Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Skull Base Surgery Working Groups of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS). He also held various leadership positions in institutions such as the Meningioma and Cerebral Venous System Society, Academia Eurasiana Neurochirurgica, and the World Academy of Neurological Surgery.
He delivered lectures as a visiting professor at several universities including Harvard, Yale, Toronto, and Johann Wolfgang Goethe University. He organized 15 national and international scientific meetings. His scholarly output includes 228 international publications, 64 international conference presentations, 67 national conference presentations, 14 international courses, 4 book editorships, 23 book chapters, 175 international abstracts, and 103 national articles.
A member of numerous international professional organizations, Pamir has established academic collaborations in Europe and the Americas in the field of neurosurgery and has led efforts to transfer clinical knowledge and practices to Türkiye. He has made significant contributions to improving the quality of medical education, advancing clinical skills training, and developing simulation centers.
