Real Madrid Baloncesto is the basketball section of Real Madrid Club de Fútbol, based in Madrid, Spain. The team competes in the top division of Spanish basketball, Liga Endesa (ACB), as well as in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. Throughout its history, the club has participated in both domestic and international competitions and has accumulated a substantial number of titles at the national and European levels.
History
Real Madrid’s basketball section was officially established in the early 1930s and became a prominent team in national competitions. The club was one of the founding members of the Spanish League in the 1950s and began achieving consistent success in both domestic and international tournaments. In the 1960s and 1970s, under the direction of coaches Pedro Ferrándiz and later Lolo Sainz, the team secured multiple EuroLeague championships and became a regular participant in European club competitions. A notable moment in the club’s history occurred in 1995, when Arvydas Sabonis contributed to a EuroLeague title before continuing his career in the NBA. In recent years, under coaches Pablo Laso and Chus Mateo, the team has remained active in high-level European basketball.

Modern Era and Recent Performance
Under the leadership of coaches such as Pablo Laso and current head coach Chus Mateo, Real Madrid reached the EuroLeague Final Four multiple times during the 2010s and won championships in 2015 and 2018. In 2023, the team became the first in EuroLeague history to win the title after overcoming a 0–2 deficit in the playoffs. Luka Dončić began his professional development in the club’s youth academy at the age of 13 and was part of the squads that won EuroLeague titles in 2015 and 2018, before he transitioned to the NBA.
