Reha Muhtar (born 21 July 1959, Istanbul; died 3 June 2026, Bodrum, Muğla) was a Turkish journalist, television presenter, news anchor and commentator. He began his professional career as a reporter for the newspaper Milliyet and continued it at TRT and various private television channels. He became widely known to the public especially for his program Ateş Hattı and his role as chief news anchor on several channels.

Reha Muhtar was born on 21 July 1959 at the American Hospital in Istanbul as the only child of his family. His mother’s name is Ferdane Muhtar. His father, Cemal Muhtar, was a Turk from Kerkük who served as a professor of Arabic Language and Literature at the Faculty of Language, History and Geography of Ankara University. Due to his father’s academic position, the family lived in Ankara during winters and in Istanbul during summers.

He completed his primary, secondary and high school education at TED Ankara College. He pursued his university education at the School of Journalism of the Faculty of Political Sciences at Ankara University.

Reha Muhtar began his journalism career in 1983 as a reporter for the newspaper Milliyet. He left Milliyet in 1985 and later held columnist positions at various newspapers:

In 1985 Muhtar moved to TRT and served as a correspondent in Athens, Greece for eight years. During his time in Athens, he became the champion of Greece in bridge. In 1991 he began preparing the program Ateş Hattı.

In 1993 he left TRT and joined Kanal D; following the sale of Kanal D in 1994, he returned to TRT. In 1995 he left TRT again and joined Star TV, but soon returned to Kanal D. In 1996 he moved to Show TV, assuming the roles of chief news anchor and director of news programming, and worked there until 2002.

In 2002 he moved to Star TV and left the channel in 2003. In 2004 he joined atv as a judge on the music competition program Akademi Türkiye. In 2006 he returned to Show TV but left the channel the same year. In 2007 he presented the program Çapraz Ateş on FOX. In 2008 he returned to Show TV and in 2009 presented the program Çok Farklı on CNN Türk. Between 2009 and 2011 he presented the program Son Kale on Kanaltürk.

Muhtar married journalist Selin Çağlayan in 1982; the marriage lasted four years. In 1998 he began a relationship with pianist Mehveş Emeç, and in 2000 with Harika Avcı. His relationship with Nilüfer, which began in 2001, ended in 2003; from this relationship they adopted a child named Ayşe Nazlı. In 2006 he lived with singer Gülşen. Between 2007 and 2009 he lived with actress Deniz Uğur; from this relationship twin children, Mina and Poyraz (born 6 May 2009), were born. In 2009 he began a relationship with Oya Germen.

Reha Muhtar was admitted to hospital on 28 May 2026 after collapsing at his home in the district of Bodrum, Muğla. Medical examinations diagnosed him with heart failure. He died on 3 June 2026 at the age of 67.
