Sadettin Saran was born in the United States in 1964. His father was a civil servant from Kırıkkale, and his mother is American. After completing primary, middle, and high school in Turkey, he pursued higher education in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kentucky on a sports scholarship. Following the completion of his studies in the United States, he worked for a period at Ensco Environmental Services, an environmental engineering firm based in Arkansas. He then returned to Turkey and served as an Advisor for Foreign Relations at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
In 1989, Saran entered the business world by founding Saran International, initially representing international companies such as ESPN and Lockheed Martin. Over time, these activities evolved into a diversified structure under the umbrella of Saran Group. The company operates more than 30 companies and employs over 3,000 people across sectors including media broadcasting, defense industry, internet broadcasting, aviation, gambling, and tourism.
Sadettin Saran’s entrepreneurial approach is grounded in long-term planning, disciplined operations, and sectoral diversification. Recognizing a gap in Turkey’s sports broadcasting sector, he invested in this area and played an influential role in the growth of sports media. He has stated on various platforms that entrepreneurship involves not only making investments but also embracing corporate social responsibility.
In 2004, Sadettin Saran made an investment in international sports management by purchasing shares in Borussia Dortmund, one of Germany’s historic football clubs. However, he encountered strong resistance to his attempts to increase his stake within the club. As a result, he decided to withdraw from the partnership and sold his shares in 2005. The sale was attributed to intense opposition from within the club and resistance to further investment. It has been noted that this experience provided him with significant managerial lessons.
Sadettin Saran joined the board of directors of Fenerbahçe Sports Club in 2001 and assumed responsibility for the football branch. However, he resigned from the board in 2003. He was expelled from the club following disagreements with the management of Aziz Yıldırım. After an eight-year legal process, the Court of Cassation ruled that his expulsion was unjust.
In the extraordinary general assembly held in 2025, he was elected as the 38th president of Fenerbahçe. At the congress where 49,268 members had voting rights, 24,732 members cast their votes, and Sadettin Saran received 12,325 votes to be elected president.
