Servet Tazegül (born 26 September 1988, Nuremberg) is a taekwondo athlete. He has won Olympic, World and European championships. Born in Germany to a family that migrated from the Arpaçay district of Kars to Germany, he pursued his sporting career representing Türkiye.

Servet Tazegül was born into a family that migrated from Arpaçay, Kars, to Germany. His family settled in Germany as workers. His interest in taekwondo began in childhood through admiration for East Asian martial arts. Tazegül started taekwondo at the age of five and was selected for the Türkiye National Taekwondo Team in 2003.

Olympic Achievements

• Won a bronze medal in the 68 kg category at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
• Won a gold medal in the same category at the 2012 London Olympics, becoming Olympic champion.
• Was eliminated in the repechage match at the 2016 Rio Olympics and did not win a medal.

World Championships

• Won a gold medal in the 68 kg category at the 2011 Gyeongju World Taekwondo Championships and was named the most valuable athlete of the tournament.
• Won a gold medal in the 68 kg category at the 2015 Chelyabinsk World Taekwondo Championships.

European Championships

• Gold medal in the 67 kg category at the 2008 Rome Championships.
• Gold medal in the 68 kg category at the 2010 Saint Petersburg Championships.
• Gold medal in the 68 kg category at the 2012 Manchester Championships.
• Gold medal in the 68 kg category at the 2014 Baku Championships.
• Gold medal in the 68 kg category at the 2016 Montreux Championships.

Servet Tazegül became one of the most recognized figures in Turkish taekwondo on the international stage.

After the 2016 Olympics, Tazegül experienced a decline in performance due to injuries and distanced himself from competition. He retired from professional sports in 2019 and began coaching with the Türkiye National Taekwondo Team the same year.

As an athlete who grew up in Germany but chose to compete for Türkiye, Tazegül rejected transfer offers from foreign countries. After retiring from competition, he aims to develop new talent in taekwondo in Türkiye through coaching.

Servet Tazegül is one of the athletes who have brought success to Türkiye in international taekwondo. He is among the few athletes to have won medals at the Olympics, World and European Championships.
