Şevkiye Özel Fen Lisesi

Şevkiye Özel Fen Lisesi is a secondary education institution affiliated with the Ministry of National Education of Türkiye, located in the Kızılcasöğüt neighborhood of Çivril district, Denizli. The school was built by Çivilli businessman Dr. Selami Özel in memory of his mother, Şevkiye Özel, through his activities in the gold trade.^【1】

The institution commenced operations in the 1999-2000 academic year with 72 students under the name Şevkiye Özel Anadolu Teacher High School, following approval from the Ministry on 05.09.1999. The school graduated its first cohort of 16 students in the 2001-2002 academic year.

In subsequent years, the number of graduates increased steadily; in the 2015-2016 academic year, 80 students graduated. As part of its institutional transformation, the school was converted into an Anatolian High School in 2014 and then into a Science High School in 2015. It graduated its first cohort under the Science High School status in 2019.^【2】

The institution operates under the central hierarchy of the Ministry of National Education of Türkiye and falls under the jurisdiction of the Denizli Provincial Directorate of National Education and the Çivril District Directorate of National Education. Its institutional operations are structured in accordance with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 652, the Regulation on Provincial and District Directorates of National Education, and the Regulation on Secondary Education Institutions. The school’s strategic management processes are carried out in line with the 2024-2028 Strategic Plan prepared within the framework of Public Financial Management and Control Law No. 5018.

The school implements an educational program weighted toward mathematics and natural sciences in accordance with the Science High School curriculum. Its educational vision is to develop individuals with high academic achievement and sufficient foreign language proficiency to follow scientific and technological advancements.

The first foreign language is English and the second foreign language is German. Educational activities are supported by 17 smart boards, laboratory equipment, and information technology infrastructure. Support and Enrichment Courses (DYK) are organized in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, and Turkish Language and Literature to reinforce students’ academic gains.^【3】

The institution admits students whose interests and talents are concentrated in science and mathematics, aiming to contribute to the development of highly qualified scientific personnel. Its primary objective is to prepare these students optimally for higher education and to integrate them into society as productive individuals equipped with scientific thinking skills.^【4】

The campus comprises 9119 m² of garden area, 1235 m² of covered space, and 5200 m² of landscaped area.^【5】 The campus includes a main school building (Z+3 floors), a girls’ dormitory with a capacity of 144 students (Z+2 floors), and a boys’ dormitory with a capacity of 108 students (Z+3 floors), located in the district center. Physical facilities include 13 classrooms, Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories, an Information Technology classroom, a library with 6350 books, an indoor sports hall, a conference hall, a cafeteria, and a support education room.^【6】

The school administration consists of a principal, one deputy principal, and two assistant principals. According to 2024 data, the institution employs a total of 40 staff members, including 26 teachers, one guidance counselor, four administrative personnel, and support services staff.^【7】 The majority of the teaching staff hold permanent positions, and their subject distribution covers all areas required by the Science High School curriculum.^【8】

The total number of students enrolled ranges between 318 and 354. According to 2020-2021 data, 207 students are female and 147 are male. The boarding rate is very high, with dormitory occupancy levels ranging between 94% and 96%. Graduates are primarily admitted to higher education programs in Medicine, Law, Engineering, and Faculty of Education.^【9】

The institution implements projects under the European Union Erasmus, e-Twinning, and TÜBİTAK science programs, as well as national and international initiatives.^【10】
