Shanzelize Wedding Hall (Series)

Şanzelize Düğün Salonu is a miniseries featuring elements of drama and black comedy, released in 2023 on TRT’s digital platform tabii. The series consists of one season and eight episodes and was released in 2023. It is adapted from the novel of the same name by Tarık Tufan.

Production Team

The film’s original novelist and screenwriter is Tarık Tufan. The direction is by Osman Nail Doğan. The cinematography is by Alper Kasap and the editing is also handled by Osman Nail Doğan. The music is composed by Ali Saran. Produced by ATK Medya Yapım, Osman Nail Doğan also serves as the producer. The film is a Turkish production and is filmed in Turkish.

Plot

The series focuses on the intersecting lives of various individuals at a dergâh in Istanbul. The main character, Turgut, is the son of a sheikh. Turgut’s internal conflicts, transformations in his lifestyle, reckoning with his former love, and the absurd events unfolding around him form the central axis of the series.

Among the characters gathered in the same space are Rüstem, who abducts the bride on her wedding night; an elderly man attempting suicide; and a woman overwhelmed by urban life. Their intertwined stories are presented to the viewer.

Theme

Şanzelize Düğün Salonu explores the stories of individuals caught between traditional life and modern urban existence. Themes such as belief, belonging, love, loneliness and alienation are central. The narrative tone oscillates between absurdist and melancholic elements. The characters’ reckonings with their pasts, confrontations with their identities, and efforts to rebuild their lives are handled in a dramatic manner.
