Silivri BOTAŞ Natural Gas Facility Fire is a fire that broke out on 2 December 2025 at a natural gas storage facility owned by Pipeline and Oil Transportation Inc. (BOTAŞ) in the Silivri district of Istanbul due to an unknown cause. Following the incident, numerous fire departments, AFAD and UMKE teams were dispatched to the area. Initial assessments indicate no fatalities or injuries have been reported.

Ignition and Initial Response

Following the fire that broke out due to an unknown cause within the facility, BOTAŞ teams shut off the gas flow in the area. Numerous fire departments from surrounding districts were deployed to the site and began intervention efforts to prevent the fire from spreading. Personnel inside the facility were evacuated in accordance with safety protocols.

Staff stationed at the facility were systematically evacuated from the premises from the moment the fire was reported. After the gas flow was shut off and personnel were evacuated, firefighting operations continued. The area was cleared under extensive safety measures to mitigate potential risks.

Official Statements

The Istanbul Governorate stated that the fire began around 14:30 and that its cause remains unknown. The statement confirmed that numerous fire departments, AFAD and UMKE teams were dispatched to the scene, that response efforts were ongoing, and that initial information indicated no casualties or injuries. It was also noted that the exact origin of the fire would be determined through technical investigations after firefighting operations were completed.

Firefighting operations have continued since the incident occurred. BOTAŞ teams shutting off the gas flow and fire department interventions are being carried out simultaneously. Technical teams will conduct investigations into the cause of the fire following the completion of the extinguishing operations.
