Speak as Much as Your Husband: Resurrection (Film)

Speak as Much as Your Husband: Resurrection is a romantic comedy film that premiered in Türkiye on April 1, 2016. Produced under the direction of Kıvanç Baruönü, it is the sequel to the film adapted from Şebnem Burcuoğlu’s novel series of the same name, Speak as Much as Your Husband (2015). Produced by BKM Film, the movie humorously explores the conflict between traditional notions of marriage and individual freedoms.

The film centers on the events that unfold after Efsun (Ezgi Mola) and Sinan (Murat Yıldırım) decide to get married. In the previous film, Efsun struggled against family and societal pressure to marry; in this installment, she confronts Sinan’s family, particularly his authoritarian grandmother Cavide Hanım. The narrative, which progresses through the unique pressures and social codes of marriage, offers a social analysis of the position of women within the institution of marriage. Throughout the film, tensions between traditional family structures, prescribed gender roles, and the individual’s desire for autonomy are depicted.

Kıvanç Baruönü directed the film and wrote its screenplay, with additional contributions to the script development by Utku Gürtunca. The film was produced by BKM Film, with production oversight by Necati Akpınar and Zümrüt Arol Bekçe. Cinematography was handled by Jean-Paul Seresin, and the music was composed by Jingle Jungle and Ömer Özgür. Some of the filming took place in the Taraklı district of Sakarya.

The film focuses on the conflict between the roles imposed on women by traditional Turkish family structures and the modern woman’s pursuit of freedom. The humorous narrative offers a critical perspective on societal gender norms, the social expectations imposed by the institution of marriage, and power dynamics within the family.

No official public disclosure of the film’s budget has been made. However, according to data from Box Office Türkiye, the film was watched by a total of 1,210,207 viewers and generated a revenue of 14,065,088 TL. Based on these figures, it can be said that the production achieved commercial success.

Ezgi Mola was awarded the Best Female Film Actress (Golden Star) at the 2016 Türkiye Gençlik Ödülleri for her portrayal of Efsun.
