Specialization Exam in Medicine (TUS)

The Specialization Exam in Medicine (TUS) is a centralized examination that graduates of medical faculties in Türkiye must take to begin specialist training. Organized twice a year by ÖSYM, this exam serves as a placement system that enables candidates to enter specialist training in their chosen fields. Candidates eligible to sit for the exam include graduates of medical faculties in Türkiye and those who have graduated from foreign medical faculties recognized as equivalent.

TUS consists of two separate sessions:

1. Basic Medical Sciences Test (BMST)

• Covers fundamental topics in Anatomy, Histology-Embryology, Physiology, Medical Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pathology, and Pharmacology like.

• Comprises 120 questions.

2. Clinical Medical Sciences Test (CMST)

• Includes clinical sciences such as Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Psychiatry.

• Comprises 120 questions.

Both tests are multiple-choice, and candidates’ scores are calculated based on the combined results of these two examinations.

• Graduation from a medical faculty in Türkiye or graduation from a foreign medical faculty with recognized equivalence.

• There is no age limit for taking the exam.

• Graduates of faculties of medicine and other health sciences are not eligible to apply.

Score Types:

• T Score (Basic Sciences)

• K Score (Clinical Sciences)

Placement System:

• Candidates are placed into specialist fields based on their scores and preferences.

• Some specialties require higher scores, while others can be chosen with lower scores.

TUS Dates:

• Spring Session (Typically March-April)

• Autumn Session (Typically September-October)

Exam Duration:

• 150 minute per session, totaling 300 minutes.

Duration of Specialist Training:

• Varies between 3 and 6 years depending on the specialty.

Compulsory Service:

• Physicians who complete specialist training may be required to serve in designated regions under the compulsory service obligation.
