Streamlabs

Streamlabs is a broadcasting software and service platform developed for users conducting live online streams. Originally developed in 2014 as an independent startup, the software was acquired by Logitech in 2019. It is compatible with various streaming platforms including Twitch, YouTube and Facebook Gaming and provides a range of tools and interfaces for the streaming process.

Streaming Software and Features

Streamlabs is a customized version of the open-source OBS Studio (Open Broadcaster Software). The software, offered as Streamlabs Desktop, includes core streaming functions such as scene management, source layout, scene transitions and recording. In addition, the system provides themes, layers and event-based alerts that allow users to visually customize their streams.

The “Widgets” modules in the software are configurable components that visually display events such as donations, follows and subscriptions. These components enable technical visualization of viewer interaction during a stream.

Service Components

Streamlabs is not limited to desktop software; it also offers additional services such as donation collection, merchandise store integration and goal setting. Through the paid Streamlabs Ultra subscription, users gain access to advanced themes, mobile streaming support and enhanced analytics tools.

Dedicated applications have also been developed for iOS and Android platforms to support mobile broadcasting. Through these apps, users can stream directly from mobile devices without requiring a computer.

Integration and Application Areas

Streamlabs is technically integrated with platforms such as Twitch, YouTube and Facebook Gaming. Additionally, it can be used simultaneously with other software including Discord, Spotify and command bots. Analytics can be performed via a control panel to monitor streaming data and user interaction.

The software can be customized according to user needs through browser sources, custom commands and plugin systems. This feature enables technical personalization of the streaming process.

Licensing and Development Process

Streamlabs was developed based on the open-source OBS Studio software. Initially released as Streamlabs OBS, the software was renamed Streamlabs Desktop in 2021 at the request of the development team. This transition raised issues regarding naming and licensing within the context of open-source software development principles. Currently, the software is developed under Logitech and continues to be used in the live streaming field.
