Tazı Canyon

Tazı Kanyonu is a natural formation located within the boundaries of Köprülü Kanyon National Park, between the Manavgat district of Antalya Province and the Sütçüler district of Isparta Province in Türkiye. Situated approximately 10 km north of the 366,140-decar Köprülü Kanyon, Tazı Kanyonu is also known as the Valley of Wisdom.

Formation and Geographic Features

Tazı Kanyonu was formed over millions of years by the erosive action of the Köprüçay River (known in antiquity as the Eurymedon). The canyon’s vertical walls rise to heights between 200 and 400 metres. The region’s geology consists of clay, sandstone, conglomerate and limestone, conditions that have facilitated the development of karst landforms.

Ecosystem and Biodiversity

Tazı Kanyonu and its surroundings host a rich biodiversity. The area is home to pure cedar, juniper, Taurus fir and black pine trees. During nature walks, visitors may encounter wild goat, hare, eagle, rock pigeon and goshawk. Among the key bird species found in the national park are the golden eagle, rock thrush, red-backed shrike, black redstart, spotted flycatcher, rock sparrow, swallow, bearded vulture, rock partridge, hoopoe, red cherrybird, snake eagle, rock pigeon and rock martin.

Tourism and Activities

Tazı Kanyonu is a popular destination for nature enthusiasts and photography lovers. Activities such as trekking, camping and rafting are possible in the region. During visits to the area, tourists may also explore the historic Roman bridge known as Oluk Köprüsü and the ancient city of Selge.
