TEKNOFEST Wireless Communication Competition

TEKNOFEST Wireless Communication Competition is a technology competition designed to support young engineer participants in enhancing their knowledge and skills in wireless communication technologies, in line with Türkiye’s national technology National Technology Initiative vision. The competition aims to encourage participants to design software-based communication systems, test their transmission performance under challenging conditions similar to real world environments, and develop innovative solutions in signal processing.

Wireless communication plays a vital role in the digital transformation of modern societies. Technologies such as internet access, mobile communication, IoT (Internet of Things), remote perception systems, and military communication networks are critical across numerous domains and require high fast, reliable, and uninterrupted data transmission. In this context, the TEKNOFEST Wireless Communication Competition aims to foster the development of engineers who will design the communication systems of the future.

The primary objective of the competition is to equip participants with expertise in the following areas:

• Developing frequency management and adaptive communication strategies
• Implementing methods to avoid interference from jammer signals
• Enhancing data transmission performance using advanced signal processing techniques
• Utilizing software-defined radio (SDR) and other software-based communication technologies

Students enrolled in master’s and doctoral programs at universities in Türkiye or abroad who are education bachelor's degree may participate. Teams must consist of at least two and no more than six members, excluding advisor instruction members, and each team must have a designated team captain. Participants are expected to develop their abilities in teamwork, project management, and problem solving.

The competition process requires participants to prepare comprehensive technical reports that assess their knowledge in engineering and system design. These reports include:

1. System Requirements Specification Document: Defines the project’s core needs, objectives, and overall framework.
2. Preliminary Design Report: Presents the initial design proposal and technical analyses of the communication system.
3. Project Detail Report: Provides a detailed description of the final design, including algorithm structure, system architecture, and implementation steps.

The Wireless Communication Competition promotes a multidisciplinary approach not only in technical education but also across engineering disciplines. The competition provides a common platform for students from diverse fields such as electronic communication engineering, computer engineering, and electrical engineering to collaborate. Participants also develop their ability to generate innovative responses to challenges commonly encountered in the engineering industry.

In alignment with the National Technology Initiative vision, the competition aims to reduce Türkiye’s dependency on foreign communication technologies and support domestic technology production through domestic-developed solutions. In this context, the competition serves not only as a technical event but also as a training ground for young engineers that contributes directly to the nation’s strategic technology goals.
