Trabzon Airport is a transportation hub located in northeastern Türkiye on the Black Sea coast. The airport, which entered service in 1957, operates under civil status. It serves both domestic and international flights and handles millions of passengers annually.

Trabzon Airport is one of Türkiye’s busiest airports and experiences high passenger traffic, especially during write months due to tourism activities.

Trabzon Airport serves millions of passengers annually. According to 2023 data, the airport provided services to a total of 3,535,902 passengers.

In the first half of 2024, 1,522,273 passengers used the airport.

June In 2024, 378,163 passengers departed from the airport via travel.

Trabzon Airport is the ninth busiest airport in Türkiye.

To accommodate growing passenger capacity, Trabzon Airport continuously upgrades its infrastructure. On 27 August 2024, new service facilities and a connection road were opened to service.

Newly Opened Structures:

• New international arrivals terminal building of 3,077 m²
• CIP building of 860 m²
• 100-metre-long new connecting road
• Two fixed passenger bridges and airbridge systems added to the existing domestic terminal.

These new structures have been modernized and brought into service to meet Trabzon’s growing tourism and trade demand.

Due to the current airport’s inability to meet rising passenger demand, plans are underway to construct a new airport for Trabzon. According to a statement by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, the new airport will be built on reclaimed land and located in the northern region of Trabzon.

Upon completion, the project will position Trabzon as one of the most important air transport hubs in the region and significantly increase international flight traffic.

Parallel to the development of Trabzon Airport, work continues on the Trabzon urban rail system project. The planned project will integrate the airport with Akçaabat district, Meydan area, Karadeniz Technical University and Trabzon Bus Terminal. Designed to be 31.9 kilometres long with 56 stations, this system will significantly ease city traffic.

As of 2023, Trabzon Airport offers international connections to 20 destinations in 11 countries via 19 different airlines. Regular flights operate to Qatar, Azerbaijan, Germany, Kuwait, Iraq and Jordan like.

In addition, direct flights from Trabzon to Saudi Arabia have been launched.

Trabzon Airport is one of the most important transportation nodes directing regional air traffic. With new investments, both its capacity and Trabzon’s international connectivity will be strengthened. The expansion of the current airport and the implementation of the new airport project will further elevate the city’s economic and tourism potential.
