TRT Genç

TRT Genç began broadcasting on 15 January 2026 with an inauguration event held at the Presidency Complex Congress and Culture Center in Türkiye. The channel, designed for young people aged 10 to 18, aims to shield them from useless and harmful content, connect them with knowledge, and contribute to the emergence of generations defined as “TEKNOFEST generation” — those who investigate, create, and focus on the future.

Institutional Framework

TRT Genç is a broadcasting entity within the structure of Türkiye Radio and Television Corporation (TRT). With the launch of TRT Genç, TRT’s number of television channels has increased to 18.

The channel will operate under a hybrid broadcasting model that is not limited to digital platforms but is also supported by traditional broadcasting. This structure aims to reach disadvantaged youth who lack internet access.

Inauguration Event

The inauguration event took place on Thursday, 15 January 2026, at the Presidency Complex Congress and Culture Center. The event was hosted and attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The program featured special performances, curated excerpts from upcoming TRT Genç programs, and interactive stage presentations.

Target Audience and Broadcasting Approach

The target audience of TRT Genç is young people aged 10 to 18. It has been stated that the channel will feature content aligned with the current curriculum as well as content reflecting national and spiritual values. The channel’s broadcasting approach is defined as youth-centered. TRT Genç’s motto is “You Are the Future!”

Through TRT Genç, the goal is to protect young people from useless and harmful content, connect them with knowledge, and contribute to the development of generations defined as “TEKNOFESTgeneration” — those who investigate, create, and focus on the future.

Thematic Areas

In his remarks during the inauguration, TRT General Manager Mehmet Zahid Sobacı stated that the channel will include content designed to stimulate science and technology and encourage imagination and production. It will showcase ideas from young entrepreneurs, projects by young inventors, and encounters with astronauts and scientists.

It has been indicated that history, prominent figures in literature, and various aspects of culture will be presented in a style adapted to the language of young people. Programming will also cover topics such as sports, music, nature, art, contemporary life, and “stories of kindness.”

It has been stated that TRT Genç will not only address young people but also parents, aiming to create a shared viewing and learning environment through content suitable for families to watch together.

In his speech at the “TRT Genç Channel Inauguration Event” held at the Beştepe National Congress and Culture Center, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed his hope that the channel would be beneficial to young people, families, the media, and the nation.

Erdoğan also referenced the 56th anniversary of TRT television’s launch on 31 January, highlighting TRT’s broad range of activities throughout history, from journalism to cultural and artistic content.

Erdoğan noted that TRT Genç is part of these broader broadcasting efforts directed at youth. He emphasized the diversity of content young people encounter through media and underscored the importance of targeted, age-appropriate programming designed specifically for them. He affirmed that TRT Genç is positioned within this framework.
