Versailles (TV Series)

Versailles is a historical drama television series set in 17th-century France. Developed by Simon Mirren and David Wolstencroft, the series first aired on Canal+ on 16 November 2015 and concluded on 21 May 2018. Comprising three seasons and a total of 30 episodes, the series explores the efforts to institutionalize absolute monarchy through the construction of the Versailles Palace under King Louis XIV.

In 1667, following the Fronde uprisings, King Louis XIV decides to relocate from Paris and commission the construction of the Versailles Palace. By forcing the French nobility to move to the palace, he brings them under the control of centralized authority. The series examines the political relationships, power struggles and personal developments that unfold within the Versailles Palace during this period.
