Vortex

Girdap entered Turkish from the Persian word girdāb گِرداب. This term is formed by the combination of gird/gard (گرد), meaning “to turn” or “to rotate,” and āb (آب), meaning “water,” and thus conveys the sense of “rotating water” or “water vortex.”

• Everyday Language: Used to describe rotational movements in water and the vortex-like currents formed by water.
• Geography: Used to define circular water movements created by the convergence of currents in seas lakes and rivers.
• Literature: Used metaphorically to describe a person being drawn into difficult complex and inescapable situations.
• Metaphorical Meaning: Preferred to express how life events or emotional processes pull a person into a difficult and overwhelming situation.
