The WESCAM MX-15 series is a family of platforms offering multi-purpose, multi-sensor imaging solutions equipped with advanced electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR) sensor systems. These systems are particularly preferred for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions in maritime, aerospace, and unmanned systems domains, and can work integrated with both manned and unmanned platforms.

Mission Areas and Platforms

WESCAM MX-15 systems are developed for use in a wide variety of missions, including reconnaissance, search and rescue (SAR), intelligence gathering, threat detection, friend-or-foe identification, and navigation in night and low-visibility conditions. Platforms on which the system can be installed include:

  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV)
  • Fixed and rotary-wing aircraft
  • Aerostats
  • Ship and maritime platforms
  • Ground vehicles
  • Coastal and fixed base stations

are available.

Multi-Sensor Imaging and Laser Capabilities

The WESCAM MX-15 series can support the simultaneous use of 6 to 7 sensors. These sensors include:

  • HD thermal camera (MWIR, cooled)
  • HD daylight camera (1920x1080 resolution)
  • High-sensitivity camera in low-light conditions
  • HD short-wave infrared (SWIR) camera
  • Wide and narrow angle laser illuminator
  • Eye-safe laser rangefinder
  • HD spotter cameras
  • Real-time image processing technologies

are available. These features enable continuous imaging day and night, and distant targets can be detected with high zoom capabilities.

Advanced Image Processing Technologies

The WESCAM MX-15 system is equipped with built-in graphics processing units (GPUs) that offer high processing power in the field of imaging. Thanks to this infrastructure, functions such as:

  • Real-time image enhancement
  • Haze penetration
  • Advanced target recognition and identification
  • 2x, 4x digital zoom (Ezoom)
  • Image blending (EO and IR)
  • Pseudo-color IR
  • Moving Target Indication (MTI)
  • Automatic Video Tracking (AVT)

can be successfully performed.

Stabilization and Integration

The systems are equipped with a 4-axis actively stabilized turret structure, and the IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) is directly mounted on the optical platform for high-accuracy target positioning. These systems, which can be easily integrated into aerial or maritime vehicles, offer integration conveniences such as:

  • Passive vibration isolation
  • Automatic INS alignment
  • GPS receiver
  • Integrated video processing unit
  • Wide video and data ports (HD-SDI, analog, RS-232/422, Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553B, ARINC 429)
  • Calibration-free modular replacement (LRU swap out)

are offered.

Environmental Durability and Certification

The WESCAM MX-15 system is manufactured to be resistant to salt, fog, and water in marine environments, and to high altitude and temperature changes in aviation. It complies with military environmental standards such as MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F, and civil aviation standards like RTCA/DO-160. All systems undergo environmental stress tests.
