Early Life and Career Beginnings
Born on July 7, 2000, in Istanbul, Yunus Akgün began his football journey in Galatasaray’s youth academy and later signed a professional contract to join the senior team.
He made his professional debut on August 5, 2018, in the Turkish Super Cup final against Akhisar Belediyespor. That same season, he played his first Süper Lig match on August 27, 2018, in a 6-0 victory against Alanyaspor, where he also recorded his first assist.
During the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League group stages, he came on as a substitute in the 86th minute against Porto, making him the youngest Galatasaray player to appear in the UEFA Champions League after Emre Belözoğlu.
Adana Demirspor Period
Yunus Akgün spent the 2020-2021 season on loan at Adana Demirspor, playing a significant role in the team's 1st League championship victory. He remained on loan for another season, during which his impressive performances earned him a call-up to the Türkiye National Football Team.
Return to Galatasaray and Championship
In the 2022-2023 season, Yunus Akgün returned to Galatasaray and became a part of the squad under the management of Okan Buruk. At the end of the season, he celebrated the Süper Lig championship with the team.
Leicester City Period
During the 2023-2024 season, Yunus Akgün joined English Championship side Leicester City on loan. He adapted to English football during his tenure and contributed to Leicester City's Championship title and promotion to the Premier League. He returned to Galatasaray for the 2024-2025 season.
Playing Position and Technical Attributes
Yunus Akgün is a left-footed player primarily positioned as a right winger. In addition to this role, he can also play as a left winger and an attacking midfielder.
National Team Performance
Yunus Akgün has represented Türkiye at various youth levels, including U16, U17, U19, U20, and U21. In the senior national team, he has made 14 appearances and scored two goals.
