Zorkun Plateau is a highland located in the southeastern part of Osmaniye Province, in Turkey’s Mediterranean Region. It is situated on the Amanos Mountains and is considered one of the largest and most frequented plateaus in the Çukurova region. The average elevation of the plateau is approximately 1650 meters above sea level. Zorkun Plateau is primarily used during the summer months for seasonal migration and recreation.

Geographical Features

The plateau is covered by dense forests consisting mainly of pine, cedar, and fir trees. It offers a cool and dry climate during the summer, making it a popular retreat for residents of Osmaniye and nearby lowland areas. During the summer season, the population of the plateau can increase significantly, reaching up to approximately 80,000 people.

Transportation

Zorkun Plateau is located about 26 kilometers from the Osmaniye city center. It is accessible by minibus, taxi, and private vehicles. The road infrastructure allows for seasonal travel, especially during the warmer months.

Accommodation and Infrastructure

Although there are no formal hotel or resort facilities on the plateau, various types of accommodation are available in the form of traditional highland houses, wooden cabins, and privately built summer residences. In addition, the area offers basic services such as local grocery stores, cafés, butcher shops, bakeries, and restaurants. Temporary health services and a gendarmerie station operate on the plateau during the summer season.
