Ahi Evran Cami ve Türbesi is a historical structure built in honor of Ahi Evran-ı Veli, the founder of the Ahilik organization, located in the center of Kırşehir. Constructed as a zaviye in 1482, the structure has served as the spiritual center of Ahilik culture for approximately six centuries.【1】

History

The construction of the complex dates to after the death of Ahi Evran-ı Veli, who laid the institutional foundations of the Ahilik organization. Ahi Evran-ı Veli, alongside figures such as Ertuğrul Gazi, Sheikh Edebali, and Hacı Bektaş Veli, participated in gatherings known as "hilla meetings" in Kırşehir, which played a leading role in establishing the foundations of the state. After Ahi Evran-ı Veli was martyred in his struggle against the Mongol invasion on 1 April 1261, his family sought refuge with Hacı Bektaş Veli.【2】

The Ahilik Organization

Ahilik was a socio-economic organization that brought together artisans and tradespeople. Founded on the advice of Hacı Bektaş Veli, this structure aimed to foster mutual aid among Turkish artisans who migrated to Anatolia. Members of the organization played significant social roles in the Turkification process of Anatolia and Rumelia.

Current Status and Külliye Project

Ahi Evran Cami ve Türbesi was added to UNESCO’s Tentative List of World Heritage Sites in 2014. With support from the Kırşehir Municipality and the Ministry of Trade, the "Ahi Evran Külliyesi Project" has been completed and is now operational.【3】 The library, the Ahilik Research Center, and the two-story craftsmen’s bazaar constructed under the project are currently in active use and continue to represent the commercial ethics and production traditions of Ahilik culture.
