Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University (ALKÜ)

Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University is a public university established in 2015. The institution is located in the Mediterranean Region of Türkiye, in the district of Alanya within the province of Antalya. It conducts its educational, teaching and research activities across multiple campuses.

History

The university was established in accordance with Law No. 6640, which was adopted by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye on 31 March 2015 and published in the Official Gazette on 23 April 2015. This law established the university through the addition of "Additional Article 161" to the Law on the Organization of Higher Education Institutions.

The purpose of its establishment was to meet the higher education needs of the region and contribute to academic development. Following its founding, the university incorporated existing academic units and expanded its academic structure by opening new faculties, institutes and vocational schools. The university's name derives from I. Alaaddin Keykubad, the ruler of the Anatolian Seljuk State who gave the region its name Alaiye.

Campuses

The academic and administrative units of Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University provide services across multiple campuses in and around the district of Alanya.

Kestel Campus

The university's main and central campus is located in the Kestel neighborhood of Alanya. This campus houses the Rectorate building, administrative directorates (Information Processing, Library and Documentation, Student Affairs, Health, Culture and Sports Directorates etc.), numerous faculties, institutes, classrooms and the central library. Additionally, the university's first public performance-based Solar Energy Plant (SEP) project was implemented on this campus.

Other Campuses

Some of the university’s vocational schools and academic units are located at various points in Alanya and neighboring districts. These include Akseki Vocational School, Gazipaşa Mustafa Rahmi Büyükballı Vocational School, Alanya Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vocational Schools, and the Vocational School of Health Services.

Student Profile

A total of 15,855 students are currently enrolled at the university. ^【1】 Prospective students are admitted to undergraduate and associate degree programs based on results from the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) organized by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Admission to graduate programs (master’s and doctoral) is conducted by the Graduate School of Education according to academic performance criteria and examination requirements such as ALES scores, foreign language proficiency and interviews. The student body includes individuals from diverse geographical backgrounds.

Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University offers various undergraduate and associate degree programs through its faculties and vocational schools.

Undergraduate Programs

Undergraduate programs at ALKÜ are offered under the auspices of different faculties. Health-related programs include the Dentistry program within the Faculty of Dentistry and the Medicine program within the Faculty of Medicine. Additionally, the Faculty of Health Sciences offers undergraduate programs in Nutrition and Dietetics, Child Development, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, and Nursing.

In the field of engineering and technology, the Rafet Kayış Faculty of Engineering offers a wide range of engineering programs including Computer Engineering (English), Biosystems Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering (English), Industrial Engineering, Genetics and Biomedical Engineering (English and TRNC citizens), Food Engineering (English), Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering (English).

The Faculty of Economic, Administrative and Social Sciences offers programs in Economics, Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Finance and International Trade.

The Faculty of Education offers programs in Science Teaching, Primary Mathematics Teaching, English Teaching, Preschool Teaching, Guidance and Psychological Counseling, Class Teaching (including a program for TRNC citizens) and Turkish Language Teaching.

Other undergraduate programs include Gastronomy and Culinary Arts and Tourism Management in the Faculty of Tourism, Architecture in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, and Aviation Management in the Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences Gazipaşa.

Associate Degree Programs

Associate degree programs at ALKÜ are delivered through various district- and specialization-focused Vocational Schools (MYOs).

The Vocational School of Health Services offers health-focused programs such as Child Development, Physiotherapy, First Aid and Emergency Care, and Medical Laboratory Techniques.

The Alanya Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vocational School offers programs in Banking and Insurance, Computer Programming, Electricity, Real Estate Management, Interior Design, Heating and Cooling Technology, Accounting and Tax Applications, and Social Services. The Alanya Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tourism Vocational School offers programs in Culinary Arts, Tourism Animation, and Tourism and Hotel Management.

The Akseki Vocational School offers programs in Computer Programming, Office Management and Executive Assistance, Electricity, Architectural Restoration, Accounting and Tax Applications, Forestry and Forest Products, Civil Defense and Firefighting, and Land Registry and Cadastre.

Finally, the Gazipaşa Mustafa Rahmi Büyükballı Vocational School offers programs in Culinary Arts, Business Management, Civil Aviation Operations, Civil Aviation Cabin Services, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, and Tourism and Hotel Management.

International Activities

The university provides opportunities for international experience through exchange programs. It implements various international exchange programs, primarily the Erasmus+ program, and has established cooperation agreements with international institutions.

Awards and Achievements

The university has received various awards and distinctions in the fields of academic, scientific, artistic, sports and social responsibility.

• TEKNOFEST İSİF’25 (10th Istanbul International Patent Fair) Gold Award: Ayberk Kafadar, a thesis-based master’s student in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, won the Gold Award for his research on nanomaterial-based systems. The developed systems aim to enhance target hit rates and provide electronic support for weapon systems in the defense industry. The project has been moved to the commercialization phase by AYYILDIZ Defense R&D company established at Alanya TEKMER.^【2】

• TEKNOFEST Blue Homeland Unmanned Maritime Vehicle Competition “Best Design” Award: The ALKÜ Zeronetech Team received this award for their autonomous unmanned maritime vehicle named “Kılıç & Arslan”. Developed through interdisciplinary collaboration, the vehicle stands out for its autonomous movement and mission completion capabilities in surface operations. The team also achieved third place in Turkey in the same competition.^【3】

• 10th Productivity Project Awards – Public Sector Category – Third Place in Turkey: The Kestel Campus Solar Energy Plant (SEP) project won an award in the competition organized by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. This project holds the distinction of being Türkiye’s first public performance-based university SEP project. It aims to eliminate energy costs and prevent annual carbon emissions of 1,207 tons, achieving an economic benefit of 9,537,515.63 TL. With this achievement, ALKÜ became the only university to receive the award.^【4】

• Success in GreenMetric Ranking: The SEP project elevated ALKÜ to second place among young universities in the GreenMetric ranking.^【5】

• Higher Education Council (YÖK) “Orange Flag” Award: The ALKÜ Faculty of Education was awarded the “Accessibility and Inclusion” Orange Flag for its physical adaptations and social integration initiatives aimed at ensuring full participation of persons with disabilities in education and campus life.^【6】

Student Life

Various sports, cultural and social facilities are available on campus and in the surrounding areas. The university organizes activities in team sports (football, volleyball, basketball) and individual sports (table tennis, fitness, chess) to support students’ physical and social development. Throughout the year, it hosts various events such as spring festivals, graduation ceremonies, career days, lectures and artistic activities.
