Ali Poyrazoğlu (born 9 July 1946, Istanbul) is an actor, playwright, and director active in theatre and cinema. His artistic career began in childhood with performances at the Istanbul Municipal Theatres; he graduated from Pertevniyal High School and the Istanbul Conservatory (Theatre Department). In 1972, he founded the Ali Poyrazoğlu Theatre.
Ali Poyrazoğlu was born in Istanbul on 9 July 1946. He made his stage debut as a child with the Istanbul Municipal Theatres. After completing Pertevniyal High School, he graduated from the Theatre Department of the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory. He later received theatre training in England and France, gaining exposure to different theatrical traditions.
Poyrazoğlu began his professional theatre career with the Istanbul Municipal Theatres and performed and directed with ensembles such as Ulvi Uraz Theatre, Kent Oyuncuları, Gülriz Sururi-Engin Cezzar Theatre, Dormen Theatre, Ayfer Feray Theatre, and Arena Groups.
In 1972, he established his own company, Ali Poyrazoğlu Theatre. This ensemble staged works by modern Turkish and international playwrights. He translated 45 plays, which were performed by various private theatres as well as state and municipal theatres. His plays have been staged in Greece, Germany, Switzerland, England, France, Australia, and Austria.
In 1998, he played the lead role in English in the play Pera on Broadway, gaining international stage experience. In Paris, he performed his own play İçimdeki Timsah in French under the title Le Crocodile En Moi!

Poyrazoğlu began appearing in cinema in the 1970s. Early films in which he acted include Bulunmaz Uşak, Kayıkçının Küreği, Sokak Şarkıcıları, Gönül Meyhanesi, Cevriye’nin Kızları, Kadınlar Hayır Derse, Canavar Cafer, and Çilli Yavrum Çilli.
The artist stepped away from cinema in the mid-1970s but returned to the screen in the 1980s with Atıf Yılmaz’s film Asiye Nasıl Kurtulur? (1986). He later appeared in the film Arkadaşım Şeytan (1988) alongside Mazhar Alanson. He reappeared in cinema during the 2000s, performing in the films 9 (2002), O Şimdi Asker (2003), Abdülhamid Düşerken (2003), Ayın Karanlık Yüzü (2005), and Erkekler (2013).
In the 1970s, he reached a wide audience through his character “Ali Uyanık” on TRT television. He also appeared in TV series such as Darısı Başımıza, İnsanlık Hali, Kim Bunlar, Sünnet Holding, and Aile Bağları.
He created and hosted the radio program Gölgede Muhabbet for twelve years, which was later adapted for television.
Ali Poyrazoğlu has produced work in literature as well as theatre. He wrote columns for various newspapers, notably contributing for many years to Yeniyüzyıl and Sabah newspapers.

He has conducted the Borusan Philharmonic Orchestra in special concerts (Carmen – Georges Bizet, Little Prince – Rachel Portman). He also performed a concert with the Olten Philharmonic Orchestra.
In addition to his artistic career, he has taught at universities. Since 1985, he has provided consultancy in communication, team dynamics, motivation, innovation, and leadership for various institutions and organizations.
Ali Poyrazoğlu has received numerous awards for his work in theatre and cinema. He was honored by the Republic of Türkiye with the title “State Artist.” He served as UNICEF Türkiye Goodwill Ambassador, advocating for children’s rights. He also held the position of President of the Theatre Producers Association.
Ali Poyrazoğlu continues active work in theatre, cinema, and literature. He continues to stage his own plays through his theatre company and remains engaged in creative projects across various artistic disciplines.
