Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University (BANÜ)

Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University (BANÜ) is a public university located in the Bandırma district of Balıkesir Province, Türkiye. The university was established by Law No. 6640, published in the Official Gazette on 23 April 2015. BANÜ began its academic activities with institutions transferred from Balıkesir University.

History

The foundations of Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University are rooted in academic units established under Balıkesir University. The university was officially founded on 23 April 2015 through a law that transferred several faculties and vocational schools from Balıkesir University. Since its establishment, it has continued its academic and physical development.

Campuses

Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University conducts its educational and research activities across campuses located in various districts of Balıkesir. The Central Campus is situated in Bandırma. In addition to the Central Campus, there are campuses for vocational schools and other academic units in Bandırma, Gönen, Manyas, Erdek, and Susurluk.

Student Profile

The university admits students based on results from the centralized examinations conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). It provides education to approximately 21,000 students at the associate, undergraduate and graduate levels. The student profile includes students from within Türkiye as well as international students from different countries.

Undergraduate Programs

The Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences offers programs in Labor Economics and Industrial Relations, Econometrics, Economics (Turkish and English), Business Administration (Turkish and English), Finance, Political Science and Public Administration, and International Relations.

The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences includes departments of Computer Engineering (Turkish and English), Electrical Engineering (Full-time and for citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus), Electrical-Electronics Engineering, and Software Engineering.

The Faculty of Maritime Studies offers programs in Marine Transportation Management Engineering (Turkish and English), Maritime Business Management, Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, and Marine Engineering Operations (Full-time and for citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus).

The Faculty of Health Sciences provides programs in Nutrition and Dietetics, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Nursing, Health Management, and Social Work.

The Faculty of Human and Social Sciences includes departments of English Translation and Interpreting, Art History, Sociology, History, and Turkish Language and Literature.

The Faculty of Communication offers programs in Public Relations and Advertising, and New Media and Communication. The Faculty of Applied Sciences of Ömer Seyfettin offers programs in International Trade and Logistics, and Management Information Systems. Other undergraduate programs include Theology at the Faculty of Theology, Sports Management at the Faculty of Sports Sciences, and Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine.

The Bandırma Vocational School offers programs in Computer Programming, Criminal Justice and Security Services, Foreign Trade (Turkish and for citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus), Meat and Product Technology, Food Technology, Business Management, Media and Communication, and Accounting and Tax Applications.

The Vocational School of Health Services offers programs in Physiotherapy, Opticianry, Social Services, and Medical Imaging Techniques.

The Manyas Vocational School offers programs in Banking and Insurance, Occupational Health and Safety, Private Security and Protection, Health Institution Management, and Social Security.

The Vocational School of Maritime Studies offers programs in Marine and Port Management and Shipbuilding and Underwater Technology.

The Susurluk Vocational School of Agriculture and Forestry offers programs in Food Quality Control and Analysis, Laboratory and Veterinary Health, and Laboratory Technology.

The Erdek Vocational School offers programs in Health Tourism Management, Tourism and Hotel Management, and Local Administration.

Student Life

Student life is supported by social and cultural activities in Bandırma and surrounding districts where the campuses are located. The Central Campus provides spaces for students to engage in both academic and social-sporting activities. Various events are organized through student clubs catering to diverse interests.

International Activities

The university conducts various international activities to provide students with international experiences. Leading among these is the Erasmus+ program. Students can benefit from education and internship opportunities in European countries under the Erasmus+ Study and Traineeship Mobility framework.

Academic Achievements

• Disability-Inclusive University Awards: Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University won the “Disability-Inclusive University Awards 2024” from the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), receiving the “Accessibility in Space Award” (Orange Flag). This award was granted due to the accessibility standards met by the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences, the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Applied Sciences of Ömer Seyfettin.

• Academic Achievement Awards: At ceremonies held to encourage academic excellence, faculty members are awarded in seven categories: World’s Most Influential Scientists Award, World Scientists Award (AD Scientific Index), Academic Achievement Award (BANÜ-WOS), Academic Incentive Award, Project Award, and Patent Award. In institutional evaluations, the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences ranked highest in BANÜ-WOS scoring, the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture led in academic incentive grants, the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences had the highest total publication count, and the Faculty of Health Sciences achieved the highest publication rate.

• Faculty of Medicine Academic Performance: In its fifth year of operation, based on 2025 data, the Faculty of Medicine rose to 34th place among Turkish medical faculties in terms of publications per faculty member. This ranking was determined using criteria such as publication numbers and citation rates based on the Scopus database.

• Best Teaching and Education Award: For 2024, the Best Teaching and Education Award was granted to Ayşegül Demir Sarıipek, Teaching Staff of the Vocational School of Health Services; Coşkun Kalp, Teaching Staff of the Manyas Vocational School; Derya Azim, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences; and İnci Merve Altan, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences.
