Burak Aksak was born on September 12, 1985 in Istanbul. He completed his primary and secondary education in the same city. He earned his university degree in Public Administration at Eskişehir Anadolu University.

In 2006, he was accepted into Plato Film School on a scholarship; during this period, he also received training in “On-Camera Acting” at Ekol Drama Art School.

Television Career

Burak Aksak’s television career began in 2009 with the series Ramazan Güzeldir, broadcast on TRT. In this project, he worked alongside his cousin Selçuk Aydemir as both screenwriter and director.

One of the most significant projects that brought him widespread recognition is the series Leyla ile Mecnun, directed by Onur Ünlü and aired between 2011 and 2023. The series, known for its absurd humor and emotional storytelling, has secured an important place in Turkish television history and has become a cult production. Aksak served as the screenwriter for the series.

Following this success, he worked as a screenwriter on the series Ben de Özledim between 2013 and 2014; the cast of Leyla ile Mecnun also appeared in this production.

Cinema Works

Burak Aksak’s cinema career began in 2015 with the film Bana Masal Anlatma, in which he served as both screenwriter and director. The same year, he also wrote and directed the film Kara Bela, which was released in theaters.

In 2016, he created the trilogy Dede Korkut Hikâyeleri (Bamsı Beyrek, Deli Dumrul, Salur Kazan) for TRT, offering a modern perspective on classical Turkish narratives; in these projects, he again served as both screenwriter and director.

In 2017, he continued his cinema career with the film Sen Kiminle Dans Ediyorsun.

Digital Platform Productions

In 2021, Burak Aksak took on the roles of screenwriter and director for the series 50m2, released on Netflix. The series attracted attention for its original structure incorporating elements of black comedy.

Literary Activities

In addition to his work in television and cinema, Burak Aksak has also produced literary works. In 2017, he founded his own publishing house, Küsurat Yayınları.

Among his published books, the novel adaptation of Leyla ile Mecnun and Ben Orada Değildim Üstelik Siz de Yoktunuz stand out. As a writer, he has adopted an absurd, occasionally melancholic yet deeply layered narrative style.
